Biography
Though he will forever be remembered as the evil "Han" from Enter The Dragon, he's been playing villains for a very long time. Back in the 50's, he was the number one villain in the old Wong Fei-Hung series, starring his long-time friend Kwan Tak-Hing. It's just as ironic that he was a friend of another actor Lee Hoi-Chuen (father of Bruce Lee), whom would make him a household name for the rest of his life.
A Northern kung-fu stylist, he was one first martial artist/actors credited with using authentic kung-fu techniques in his movies, with Simon Yuen and Han Ying-Chieh being others during that period. He's probably made around (100) films or so, yet, to be known for just one, actually says a lot about the film (and his portrayal). His voice was dubbed by actor Keye Luke (he played Charlie Chan's #1 son and Master Po, on the old television series, Kung Fu), because he couldn't speak English.
His work in films like Tiger's Claws with Cliff Lok or Lackey & The Lady Tiger going up against "youngster" Wang Jang-Li, show his agility as well as his skill (he was (61) when he did Enter The Dragon). He had even more time to shine in the film Monkey Fist along side another good friend Chan Sau-Chung and again in Wits To Wits with Henry Yu-Yung and Wu Ma.
He stated once, that he didn't like the fact that Bruce would occasionally hit him for real, with some of his strikes, while filming their scenes. The late Lam Ching-Ying was his double and was used for the more physical scenes in the "Hall of Mirrors". In his later years he would only make occasional cameo appearances, because he spent much of his time in a wheelchair. Though, his portrayals of villains made him a star, he brought more to acting than mere villainy, he was a truly gifted martial-artist as well.
