Biography
They had signed a new actor and they weren't sure he'd measure up, so they wanted him to make sure he didn't ruin their film and cost them more money. That actor turned out to be Bruce Lee, and the movie was The Big Boss and not only did he make Golden Harvest money, they praised the choreographer's work on the film as well. Years before he started choreographing films, he was a stuntman, himself, appearing in a number of productions. He was one of the first choreographer to add authentic martial-art movements, to the films he worked on.
Turned out that he and Lee didn't agree on the way the fight scenes should go, so on their next picture The Chinese Connection, Bruce did his own choreography for the scenes that he was in and he did the choreography for the rest of the actors. Take a second look at that film and you will see that he used authentic techniques, and was one of the best Fight Choreographers of his time. Others like Liu Chia-Liang, Tang Chia, and later Samo Hung, would become renown for their work in films.
He has played in countless films (mostly villainous roles) and was one of the more dependable villains of his day. Ample with just about any weapon (meat-clever included), his style of fighting always added flavor to the films he played in. Just as good with his fists and feet (as he was at Choreography), he was never without work. He was also considered for a part in Enter The Dragon and though he eventually had to pass on the film, they kept the name of the character he was to play the same - Han. Yes, as in Han Ying-Chieh.
