Was said to have been the first choice to choreograph The Big Boss (with Bruce Lee), instead of legendary choreographer/actor Han Ying-Chieh. He became famous the world over, when he did the choreography for Joseph Kuo's classics 18 Bronzemen. No one (at that time), had ever shown how the Monks trained in Shaolin Temple, yet, he did it with such depth, that it (literally) exploded and next thing we knew, everyone was adding Shaolin Training sequences to their films. The Temple training scenes have since become a favorite among fans everywhere.
His portrayal as the senior Monk in Buddhist Fist was nothing short of excellent, the form he showed let's us see why he is held in such high regards by most directors. Shek Kien never looked better, than when he starred in the obscure hit Mysterious Heroes along with Cliff Lok, whom has helped him (Chan) choreograph such hits as Best Of Shaolin Kung Fu and Shaolin Death Squads. He liked to authentic techniques, like Liu Chia-Liang and his insight into fight choreography seemed to be, in some ways, just as keen.
