Biography
He had a standout role when he played the spearman in white, who conspiring against (and then helping) Kuo Chui and Chiang Sheng in the Shaw Bros' classic Spearmen Of Death. He can also hold his own against some of the screens better stars when it comes to fighting. And he became a regular Shaw contract player after his performance in 10 Tigers Of Kwangtung. He even played a Bruce Lee-clone, in the film - True Game Of Death. Though, not a bad performance, it is one of his least talked about film roles.
He gave a stirring performance in Usurphers Of The Emperor's Power and showed his evil side once again, in The Master Strikes Back with Ti Lung. I found him just as entertaining (and evil) as the "Snake-styled" villain in the above average film, 6 Directions Of Boxing and he gave the agile acrobat Li I-Min a very hard time in obscure hit, Drunken Arts, Crippled Fists. A very gifted performer, I remember him in the earlier in his career, in the film 2 Tigers Fight Against Dragon with Wang Kuan-Hsing and Buffalo Hsiung, with Lu Ping. Even then, he showed extreme promise and ability, amongst the film's other actors.
Not quite leading man material, he settled into roles that were (basically) ensemble parts, where he was a part of a group. Be it as a villain or a hero (something he didn't play that often), he could add spice to just about any movie he starred in. He received the nickname "Elvis" by fans (during his Venom days), because of his "Mutton-chop" sideburns. Yet, it was his talent as an actors and a martial-artist, that set him apart from most of the stuntmen, employed by Chang Cheh. Films like - Little Dragon Maiden, House Of Traps, and Sword Stained With Royal Blood, gave us a chance to witness his true acting talent and his excellent fighting skills.
