Biography
Originally from Taiwan (like most of the actors and actresses at Shaw Brothers), he was known as a "tough and rugged" kind of guy (movie-wise). Standing 5 ft. 8 in., 160lbs. he joined the Shaw studios in May (1967), after having starred in numerous Taiwanese films under the stage name Lin Chi-Feng. You'll probably remember him (usually, playing Monk roles) in a number of kung-fu movies. One of the best being, the film Invisible Terrorist, with Carter Wong.
He's also made good impressions in Shaolin Kung Fu Mystagogue and my favorite The Screaming Tiger with Jimmy Wang-Yu. His first real effort for Shaw Bros' was the movie The Fastest Sword, where he got to strut his stuff as (both) a Hero and as an actor. After the mid-70's came, he started taking more and more roles as a Shaolin monk. Ironically, people who started watching kung-fu films after (1979), will only associate him with being a monk.
He's played the hero, about as often, as he's played the villain. In films like Invincible Super Guy and Revenge Of Fist Of Fury (though they add to his resume'), they don't give him the proper respect for his talents and his skill. His early work with Shaw Bros' like The Mighty One and Swordsman At Large - are much more along the lines of the type of work, he was capable of. His association with director Joseph Kuo, was what really helped to propel him towards stardom.
