Biography
He has been in films for Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest, yet he seems more comfortable as a Background villain. He appeared in Boxer From Shantung, where he felt Chen Kuan-Tai's fist and he's starred with the like s of Fu Sheng in Na Cha, The Great. He stood out as the teacher, who had to instruct Chi Kuan-Chun in the finer points on Wing Chun, in Shaolin Martial Arts. He actually, was one of the studios's teachers, who taught martial-arts classes for new recruits appling for jobs at Chang's Films, headed by director Chang Cheh in Taiwan.
But he will be best remembered as the Japanese Judo-man who goes up against Bruce Lee in The Chinese Connection (the first Kung Fu movie I ever saw as a kid). One of my favorite scenes is when Bruce beats him up and kicks him in the butt. He is a Judo-man (Judoka) in real-life and he, supposedly, taught Bruce some Judo moves. In most of the movies that he plays in, he is (usually) outclassed by the younger, more mobile stars. He reminds me of a more tamed version of Chu Mu, with whom he starred with in wonderfully scripted, Heroes 2.
