Biography
Another Korean martial-artist who had some decent skills, but for the life of me, I don't know why he couldn't put it all together onscreen. He's almost always playing some type of goofy character in most of his films. He seems to like to go up against another Korean menace Han Ying, which is a bad mistake, as he gets to see just how far he really has to go, to make it on film. In his case, it seemed, that he had either, poor backing (handlers) or was given roles, that just didn't measure up to his skill-level. Either way, he could have done better films, had he had better management.
Where as Shaolin Incredible 10 was pretty good, Fists Of The Golden Monkey was almost ridiculous. Most of the movies he plays in have that distinct "Made-in-Korea" element - All the movements are sped up and there's too much overacting. When you have good skills (as he seemingly did), you should forget the Camera Tricks and remember that - You can make a decent movie with decent skills. Korean filmmaking has advanced so much, since the 70's kung-fu scene.

Camera tricks used too often only show a lack of skill in certain areas and can take away from any movie. A prime example are most of the films by actress Chang Lin. While her films are entertaining at first glance, once the Special Effects kick in, you've all but lost interest in the film itself. With the (seemingly) above-average skill that he possessed, it was sad to see, that directors would use his talents, in such a horrible way. While, he may have had the skills to rival some of the genre's top stars, it was often marred, by crappy film-making and poor scripts. Waste not, want not.
