Biography
I could be mistaken, but I don't think I can remember seeing him in a role where he didn't play a villain. He's not the kind of villain who could kill you without help from others. He just didn't have the type of skills that made people cringe with fear, even though he has that evil look about him. His movies usually have someone else doing the majority of the dirty work, while he sets up the process of having people killed.
Like Tien Yeh, he'll go along for the ride (killings), but his participation would always be minimal, at best. Yet, as an actor, he's not bad at all. He was a staple in a lot of King Hu's films such as A Touch Of Zen, The Valiant Ones and Raining In The Mountains where he had signature roles. His association with Jimmy Wang-Yu led to a lot of memorable film roles like The Silver Spear, Furious Slaughter and the early 70's hit Blood Of The Dragon.
His laid-back attitude in his films almost make him look like he's suffering from depression, yet, this hasn't hindered his performances in film. Roles like the one he took in Kung Fu Executioner (with Billy Chong), he was basically not used to his full potential (considering his screen-work as a villain). Here he just got to spout a few lines, before getting killed. This may have actually been because of his lack of true fighting skills, as this was a seriously action-oriented movie (even Chen Sing was doubled for this one).
