Biography
Like most, he started out working at Shaw Brothers sudios. With his height and stern looks, he was regulated to villainous-type roles. While, he had a noticeable role in 7 Blows Of The Dragon (The Water Margin), it wasn't a meaty enough role, to garner him any serious exposure. As he wasn't a true martial-artist, he didn't have many roles, where he got the chance to show any skill. One exception was in the obscure film, The Shadow Boxer. He played a corrupt boss, cheating his working out of their money, every chance he could. In the film, he jumped from the top of a staircase, on to the stomach of martial-arts champ [turned actor], Chen Fu-Woo.
Other films were The Devil's Mirror and (probably, his biggest role to date) 36 Deadly Styles. He was another tall guy, who was used in thuggish roles, because he looked (somewhat) intimidating. He had been a fixture at Shaw Brothers, for a long time, working along side many of their top performers. Unfortunately, he wasn't what they considered Star-material (good looks, acting ability, etc..), but he (still) continued to get work, in a number of films they shot (mostly Kung Fu films). He stayed with Shaw Brothers for (8) years, before trying his luck elsewhere. I enjoyed his portrayal of Captain Kao (in Golden Harvests' The Cheeky Chap), who Wei Pai had to return at a certain time, before he committed suicide.
