Biography
Here a guy whose really come up in kung-fu cinema. I first remember seeing him in The Screaming Tiger, in a small part fighting against Jimmy Wang-Yu. Then, when, a young Tan Tao-Liang did a beautiful flying sidekick knocking him over, before they would battle it out in Tornado Of Pearl River. He has also done the choreography for numerous films, where he chose to remind behind the scene. While he wasn't a great puncher or kicker, he seemed to evolve from the "Punch & Block" era of fighters, who could hold their own, in countless screen fights.
He got to really strut his stuff on numerous occasions, like in 2 Dragons Fight Against Tiger or you could find him just walking thru his lines and not really participating in the action at all - Master Of The Flying Guillotine. A much better performer, when he's fighting (as he does have the skills) he's tangled with some of the best in the genre. How often he did, well, that's another story, as he mostly worked around Jimmy Wang-Yu and his group of stuntmen/actors. I think he gained a lot of insight, working with and around martial-arts choreographer, Chan Siu-Peng. He can be found in a number of the Shaolin films, shot by director, Joseph Kuo.
He's worked with Kuo, appearing in such projects as The Blazing Temple, 18 Brozemen, and The Cavalier. He gave a very good showing in the film ChaoChow Guy, going up against Wang Kuan-Hsiung and Nancy Yen. He was just as comfortable in front of the camera (acting), as he was behind it (choreography); yet either way, his contributions always seemed to help make for much better films. Just as most 2nd-rate character actors, he has paid his dues, toiling in obscurity before gaining screen-time and becoming one of kung-fu's familiar faces.
