Biography
Here's a guy who had all the makings of a great (Swordplay) villain, the mean demeanor, the evil looks and some pretty good skills (for that period). But, as movies began to progress, he seemed to get lost in the shuffle and others with more skills began to push him into more modern acting roles. With a very good showing in Jimmy Wang-Yu's The Assassin, The Wandering Swordsman (with David Chiang), to the obscure hit King Eagle (with Ti Lung), he really showed his skills as an actor and a fighter.
I think he was most suited for Dramatic acting in parts such as Hong Kong Emmanuelle and Queen's Ransom for Golden Harvest. Though, he seemed at ease in the films he made, in movies where a sword wasn't involved, he seemed lost. One exception being Broken Oath. Here, he played the lead villain (though it was obvious that part should have gone to Chan Wei-Man), and he did a pretty good job. He was another, in a long list of actors who was most likely trained on the set by their top (2) Choreographers at that time Tang Chia and Liu Chia-Liang, when the Shaw stars started practicing martial-arts for their movie roles.
