Biography
(Born: August 17, 1950). Once hailed, the best Chinese actress ever by the press, after stunning performances in such classics as A Touch Of Zen and The Valiant Ones - this King Hu discovery, has left her mark in Asian Cinema. This beauty, who can match most men with her feet & fists, was one of the more accomplished actresses in the business. She always seemed to give all of her performances with class and style, winning awards and pushing her fame through the roof.
She was most vicious in the Fate Of Lee Khan and the vengeful hit White Butterfly Killer. Though, she also played in a few Modern roles, she was mostly known for her work in kung-fu films. The fact that she was never formally trained in martial-arts put her in the same class as John Liang, where they look better than some of the screens' real martial-artists. She later went on to form her own production company, Thomas Films in 1983. Their first movie was the smash hit, Kung Fu Kids, which spawned (5) sequels, all of which, were produced by her.
Her most recent picture had received more the critical-acclaim than any other film in Chinese history, at that time for the film, My Concubine. It had played worldwide and was even up for an Oscar. She receives a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 51st Cannes Film Festival in May 1998. One of (9) Producers honored and the only woman to accept an award (as well as the only Asian, thus striking a first in both categories). Proving again, that she was definitely first-rate -- in front of the camera or behind the scenes.
