Biography
Originally, he was cast as the kung-fu student of Wong Fei-Hung (Shih Chung-Tien) in the Shaw Bros' film, Rivals Of Kung Fu. In subsequent films - The Tea House and it's sequel Big Brother Cheng, it seemed as if he was practicing his acting and not his kung-fu. That didn't last very long, as he was soon approached by independant filmmakers to imitate the real Bruce Lee. Skinner than Bruce Li, (but probably a better martial-artist), he played those facial expressions to the hilt. He’s probably the actor who closely resembled Lee (as far as body-type was concerned) and some of his mannerisms were similar, but he still wasn't the best, of the Lee imitators.
As a martial-artist, he wasn't too bad, but put a real villain with some serious skills in front of him and the results, could have yielded some superior fight scenes. Films like The Young Dragon, Treasure Of Bruce Lee, and Bruce & Shaolin Kung Fu - gained him a legion of fans, that have sought out his films, throughout the 70's and 80's. He seemed to like working with Yang Sze a lot, as he appeared as a villain in a number of his films. He starred with a number of the top villains of the early 70's like Chen Sing, Lo Lieh, and Chiang Tao - all of whom added spice to his films. Unlike Bruce Li, he could never shake his Bruce Lee persona, and I'm not too sure that he wanted to. After the kung-fu craze started to die down, he ventured into Directing and Producing films.
