Yang Chih-Ching
Biography
Reminds me of Lu Ti, in that he gives some fine performances, but I would have preferred to have seen him fight more. In The Flying Daggers he was a menace killing everything that moved and striking fear into everyone in sight. He always gave dignified performances in the films that he made. In The Chinatown Kid, he played the greedy restaurant owner who gave Fu Sheng and Sun Chien a hard time. But in most of his earlier films he played a sinister characters or bosses. He's been a Shaw Bros' actor for years, appearing in countless films for them (he actually stayed with Shaw studios longer than most actors).
He gave a good showing as a kung-fu teacher in the obscure Shaw hit, The Shadow Boxer and as the (gangster) boss in Warrior Of Steel (with Chen Kuan-Tai), whose own men turn on him. Yet, he came to prominence in Chang Cheh's hit, The One-Armed Swordsman, as the lead villain. Though, he and other actor like him were pushed to the back when it came to fighting roles, but their superior acting abilities almost, always secured them film roles, regardless of the film (something most real martial-artists couldn't achieve in non-fighting or dramatic roles).
