Biography
Though, I've only seen him in a few movies, he will forever be associated with his role in Snake In The Monkey's Shadow as the "Monkey-stylist" (Kuo Tien-San), who helps John Chang. A Monkey stylist in real life, like classmate Chen Kuan-Tai, he must have been really dedicated to his craft, because he makes it seem so easy. Though this movie helped to put him on the map, he didn't appear in too many other films that would add to his resume, as a kung-fu star.
Although he was kind of thin, he made a very impressionable impact on the screen, when he let go. The opening scene from Snake In The Monkey's Shadow, gave us an idea of just how good he really was in the art of kung-fu. Early on, I'd also seen him covered in a magazine article on real kung-fu masters in the late '70s. Though, he's not as dynamic Hsiao Ho, he does command your attention, once he springs into action. He has appeared in such obscure films as - 2 In Blackbelt and Shaw Brothers, Hong Kong Godfather.
For his credit, he won the 1973 "Southeast Asian Chinese Martial Arts Invitational Tournament" in Malaysia and was the chief instructor at the "Ta Sheng Pai Hua Athletic Association" under the real Monkey King himself (and his instructor), Chan Sau-Chung. Both were in the Goldig classic Duel Of The 7 Tigers, which gave viewers a chance to sample many different styles, in one sitting. He is also the instructor of Shaw Bros' actor Chin Hsaio-Hao, who appeared in a number of films for ace director, Chang Cheh.
