Biography
If you've ever seen him perform, then you know what a performer he is. Growing up watching kung-fu movies, it's always interesting to see kids, who were just as proficient, as some adults. It let's us see just how much discipline it took to obtain those skills, and what adults (in these films) had to do to maintain such expertise. He seemed to take it to another level and he did an excellent job. He, actually, won an Oscar (Golden Horse) for his role in the obscure film, Lantern Festival Adventure.
He seemed to steal the show from his co-stars from time to time. You could tell that veteran stars such as John Liang and Simon Yuen, adored working with him and I'm sure he learned a lot from them, as well. His performance in Mantis Fist Fighter (aka Thundering Mantis), not only explored his acting, but his range as an actor. Remember, though, there were child actors during this time, there were none who even scratched the surface, when it came to the talents, that he displayed.
With his acrobatic and tumbling skills, he obviously had some form of Peking Opera training. He was showing the world kung-fu from a kid's point of view and he could (practically) walk through routines that would drive most adults to tears. He kind of faded from the scene after a handful of films, probably because most adults (parents) during that time looked at the film business as a menial job, until a real one came along. Yet, before he left, I sure he inspired thousands of kids (and adults, as well).
