Biography
He was one of the more famous character actors in kung-fu films, that didn’t possess the skills to handle any of the top heroic stars. Yet, no one seemed to notice, probably because he could play virtually, any part. He started out as a Singer and was pretty popular, when the singing business was booming. Usually, the villainous boss who has people killed so he can take over, he has made a great number of films, and has played with some of genre's top performers. Chen Kuan-Tai, Carter Wong, Chen Sing, and Gordon Liu, are a few of the stars he has shared the screen with, and regardless of his role, he was one of Shaw bros' most respected actors.
His portrayal of the monk in Master Killer, who was teaching Sante' how to have sharp eyes, was a role that seemed to fit him perfectly. I first remembered him from Kung Fu, The Invisible Fist, and he was just as evil as he was tricky. Dramatic acting was his mainstay, and though it would seem that his age was a factor in competing with the top stars in the genre, but great acting prevails every time. He did a great deal of work with renowned director Li Han-Hsiang, in a number of his sex comedies. He also directed a few films at Shaw Bros' including the (1959) film Full Of Joy.
