Biography
Since his time at Golden Harvest, he has been one of the driving forces that actually helped to keep the company on top in the early stages of it's developement. Hired by Huang Feng to work on The Fast Sword, he would go on to become one of the studios top and most well-respectted performers. Learning from the studio's main Choreographer Han Ying-Chieh, he would become his protege, learning as much as he could. In later years, he would eventually become the studio's top choreographer working on such projects as The Man From Hong Kong and The Valiant Ones.
He was also very generous with others who struggled to make it in the film industry. He was very instrumental in helping to secure stuntman jobs for most of his Peking Opera classmates, with the exception of Ng Ming-Tsai who had been working with director King Hu on a number of films. From Yuen Kwei to Jackie Chan, he has helped many in the industry work their way up the ranks, even teaching them how to direct films. He made stars out of Lam Ching-Ying and Yuen Biao (who toiled for years before Hung cast him in his first starring role Knockabout).
He'd delivered many hit films for the studio, before boss Raymond Chow basically turned his back on him, causing him to film the classics Enter The Fat Dragon and The Victim, with Independent filn companies. Seems Chow was trying to get Jackie to sign with Golden Harvest at this time. This left Hung free to do other things, he eventually formed the Bo Ho Film Company, which Chow distributed through Golden Harvest. Samo has been a staple in the kung-fu genre since 1970 and has always seemed to come through with exciting and innovating films.
