Biography
He really made his mark Producing films. Just like many others, he started out at Shaw Bros., working on such movies as Jimmy Wang Yu's - The Chinese Boxer. Coming from Shanghai, he would blaze a path towards a successful career in the "kung-fu movie" business. He was the man Run Run-Shaw sent to get Bruce Lee to sign with Shaw Bros., but when that didn't work out, he left Shaw studios to start Seasonal Films.
His newly founded company gave us many excellent films - Invincible Armor, The Secret Rivals, Dance Of The Drunken Mantis, and Tower Of Death. He was instrumental in helping Yuen Woo-Ping get his feet firmly planted as a director, whose films Snake In The Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master made a star out of Jackie Chan.
He is also the first director to reproduce Hong Kong kung-fu films in English language. He helped introduce us to and helped further the careers of Bruce Liang , Meng Hoi and as well as introducing the kicking stylings of John Liu and Wang Jang-Li in the film The Secret Rivals. It is safe to say that without this man, we would have been missing out on some of the best kung-fu movies around.
