Biography
Another Shaw Bros' star who played mostly in Dramas, and was a very endearing actress along the lines of Wang Lai. Though she didn’t have the landmark roles, as such actresses as Li Li-Hua or Ivy Ling-Po, she has maintained a balance where all of her roles were played with great humility & dignity. She started in the industry came in (1930), at the age of just (15) years old. Her forte' was playing young maiden characters. She was said to have been one of the last Manchu aristocrats, whose career flourished in the 1940's.
Her voice and her beauty helped to secure a number of roles as a teenager (along with a large fanbase). Her singing earned her the nickname “The Little Bird” -- while her acting [later] earned her the moniker “The Queen Of Tragedy” At the age of (20), her star began to rise, as she was named one of the “Top 4 Starlets” of her era. She won (2) Golden Horse awards for the features Yin Rong Jie and The Splendid Years Of Youth. Once, she started working at Shaw studios, she began appearing in much more mature roles. She was one, of a handful of actresses, whose portrayals were taken seriously by film-goers (this was, because of the depth, she put in her film roles).

In later years, she was (always) cast as the grieving mother or aunt, who wanted the best for her child, without all the struggle and fighting that's sure to come in these movies. One of her most grand Shaw films, was the star-studded The 14 Amazons. She could also be seen in Thunder Kick, where all she wanted for her son (played by Li Chin-Kun), was that he wouldn't fight and try to be tolerant against the people around him. She passed away in (1999).
