Biography
This veteran character actor was another Shaw Bros' actor where he normally played mostly dramatic roles until "Swordplay" films came about. Though he can be seen in a number of films, it was never in any fighting roles. He usually plays someone's chief aid making sure his orders and mayhem are carried out (by someone else). In The Flying Guillotines with Chen Kuan-Tai, he aided the Emperor (Chiang Yang) in snooping on his men as well as instilling fear into them. The only fighting role I can recall him in, was the film, The Black Tavern --- where he tried to take on Ku Feng, of all people. He wore a Viking Helmet (complete with Horns), which didn't help him at all.
In 7 Blows Of The Dragon, he played the lackey who stood lookout for Li Wen-Tai, as he attempted to kill Tetsuro Tamba (a popular Japanese actor in his first kung-fu film). Unfortunately, he did not see his student David Chiang, sitting in tree with bow and arrow in hand waiting to kill them both (so much for looking out). He was one of Shaw Bros' oldest (and trusted) stars who made transitions from Drama, Comedy, and Kung-fu films. His work with Shaw Bros’ as well as Independent companies (usually working with some former Shaw affiliate like Pao Hsueh-Li), can be considered an excellent career, for a normal character actor.
