Biography
I first remember seeing him in sword epic Duel To The Death, battling Hsu Hsao-Chang. Even though they used an abundance of wires, the movie would have still been just as entertaining, without them. Yet, his standout performance would undoubtedly be in the John Woo directed film Last Hurrah For Chivalry, with Wei Pai. Though, I've never seen him in a straight kung-fu role (fighting only), one could only imagine what his skills would be like, without a Sword in his hand (a la Erh Tung-Sheng).
It seems that he was stereotyped into Swordplay Films (which was probably not his fault), but possibly, the fault of Chen Siu-Tung, who directed him mostly in "Swordplay and Fantasy" type films. Since they say, that a Sword is really an extension of your hand (when using a sword), I often wondered what it would look like, to watch him in Last Hurrah For Chivalry, using another kind of weapon. Later, he would go on to work, in the Television industry. He would gain more exposure (to a new generation of fans), while securing work in productions not too far, from his old film roles.
