Biography
Playing the traitorous "Poon Mei" in the smash hit, 8 Diagram Pole Fighters or as the (supposedly) handicapped rogue, fighting against Wong Yu, in Dirty Ho, he always seems to give a fine performance. I thought his skills were wasted in the excellent The Fists, The Kicks, and The Evils, playing a lackey for Kao Fei and Yang Sze. In Kung Fu, The Invisible Fist, he played the dockworker, who got to taste Japanese Karate. This was the first time, that I can remeber seeing him on film. He was one of the genre's most dependable stunt-actors during the early 70's through the close of the Kung-fu era.
When you see him fight, you're almost amazed, and yet, he's been doing this for a while. He is another, in a long line of "Peking Opera" performers, who found success in the film industry. A stuntman for many years, he could be found doing early work at Shaw studios, then with Samo Hung over at Golden Harvest, back to full circle, with the Liu Chia-Liang and his crew. He gave a very good performance (without make-up), in the excellent Warrior From Shaolin, with Gordon Liu. With his skills, he was more than capable, of handling the action in front of (or behind) the camera. I would have loved to seen him in a lead role, at least just once.
