Biography
He is the son of Shaw Bros' makeup artist, Fang Yuan and one of the studio's most talented actors. Though, he's played in countless Shaw Bros' films, Kung Fu films were not his forte. He is an actor, he became famous in roles, that flowed from the Dramatic, Comedic, all the way to the Operatic. Like his stable-mate Chiang Yang, he is more of an accomplished actor, who just rode on the wave of the kung-fu craze of the 70's to find better film roles.
If you've seen him in 7 Blows Of The Dragon, maybe you notice he didn't really do anything, fanatics would call Fighting. As an actor, he can turn in commanding performances, seemingly, at will. Having starred in many of Shaw Bros' earlier hits, se's stretched his range in comedic roles (Comedy Of Mismatches), while films like The Butterfly Chalice and Inside The Forbidden City, helped him keep his dramatic acting up to par. He won the Golden Horse award in (1971), for his portrayal of a mute man, in the film, The Silent Love.
