Biography
His very good friend (and director), Robert Tai, is usually at the helm of some of the best movies that he has starred in. Films like Northern Kicks, Southern Blows and Kung Fu Commandos, put him on the map and starring along side John Liu, didn't hurt either. This way audiences got to see his skill; compared against a talented leg-fighter. He seemed to get better with each film role and started acquiring leading parts, which probably kept him on his toes (as far as fighting skills). Working with choreographers like Tai and Tsui Chung-Sin, only helped to mold him into a much better screen-fighter.
This would help him land more intriguing parts that would push him as a credible star, capable of handling much better roles (though few would come along). Some of his better film roles found him going up against some formidable opponents such as Jack Long (Ninja Hunter) and Han Ying (Ninja Vs Shaolin Guards). He seemed to excel in films that had to do with (2) subjects - Shaolin and Ninja. Works like Ninja, the Final Duel, Ninja Kids, and the above-average film, The Super Ninja, gave him many opportunities to showcase his fighting prowess and it worked well (even in a modern setting).
The Lee Tso-Nam directed Shaolin Vs Lama, was probably one of the best films he ever starred in, while Shaolin Vs Manchu, and Shaolin Temple Vs Lama tried to capitalize on the popularity of the initial films success. Like many performers, his career ran both hot and cold, but he definitely had the skills, to become one of the genre's top performers. For whatever reasons, he never rose to the prominence as a truly great performer. He is the younger brother of actor Tang Lung.
