The top student of Yuen Hsaio-Tien (having studied Northern style kung-fu from him), he would become an integral part of the kung-fu genre. Along with partner and fellow choreographer Liu Chia-Liang , they would shape what we would come to know as the kung-fu film. He was instrumental in helping Yuen Chung-Yan achieve choreographers' status at Shaw Bros' studios and it was he who introduced Yuen Woo-Ping director Ng See-Yuen of Seasonal Films.

Woo-Ping would go on to choreograph films for him (Ng See-Yuen) and later become a household name through such films as Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master, thus making a star out of Jackie Chan. He would also help to elevate Ti Lung's career through his choreography with numerous films directed by Chu Yuan, such as Sentimental Swordsman, Clans of Intrigue, Killer Clans, and Legend of The Bat. With his unique flair and weapons expertise, he established himself as a premire choreographer after he and Liu Chia-Liang split as partners and went they seperate ways after years of working together.

Though he mostly worked with director Chu Yuan, he didn't limit himself (or his talents) and worked on various film projects including Cleopatra Jones and the Casino Of Gold. Later his work with director Sun Chung helped him continue his winning ways with such excellent work such as Deadly Breaking Sword, Kung Fu Instructor, My Rebellious Son and the extremely popular Avenging Eagle starring the late Fu Sheng .
