Just like many others, he started out at Shaw Bros., working on such movies as
Jimmy Wang Yu's - The Chinese Boxer. Coming from Shanghi, he would blaze a path towards a successful career in the "kung-fu movie" business. He was the man
Run Run-Shaw sent to get
Bruce Lee to sign with Shaw Bros., but when that didn't work out, he left Shaw studios to start Seasonal Films.
His newly founded company gave us many excellent films - , Invincible Armor, Secret Rivals, Dance of the Drunken Mantis, and Tower of Death. He was instrumental in helping
Yuen Woo-Ping get his feet firmly planted as a director, whose films Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master made a star out of
Jackie Chan.
He is also the first director to reproduce Hong Kong kung-fu films in English language. He helped introduce us to and helped further the careers of
Bruce Liang ,
Meng Hoi and as well as introducing the kicking stylings of
John Liu and
Wang Jang-Li in the film The Secret Rivals. It is safe to say that without this man, we would have been missing out on some of the best kung-fu movies around.
My Favorite Films:
- Secret Rivals
- Little Superman
- Call Me Dragon
- Tower of Death
- Invincible Armor
- Kung Fu - the Invisible Fist
